SUNY New Paltz Hawks Swimming Falls to Ramapo on Senior Day

The SUNY New Paltz Swimming team celebrated 10 seniors today in their final home meet of the season against soon to be conference rival, Ramapo. Both the men’s and women’s programs fell to the Roadrunners, 152-97 and 138-11, respectively. The team celebrated Xavier CalderonPaul CastnerSamuel Debbie, Venn Engstorm, Kaylee GallagherCandela SandovalChloe JeffaresNaomi LeveyAbigail Keiser and Molly Snyder, thanking them for their contributions to the team both in the pool and in the class room.

The Hawks took first in the 200-yard medley relay on both sides. The team of Sage VadneyBrianna LawAbigail Keiser and Molly Snyder touched with a time of 2:01.28. The men’s team of Paul Castner, Venn Engstorm, Jack Samko and Alexander Gorzula touched with a time of 1:41.32.

Jayme Fink took third in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:17.46. Diego Burgos also took third in the thousand, touching with a time of 11:48.83.

Vadney placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.17. Castner took first in the event for the men with a time of 58.70.

Law took second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:15.04. Levey placed fourth with a time of 1:18.43. Engstorm took second on the men’s side of the race, finishing with a time of 1:04.55. Calderon finished third with a time of 1:05.35.

Sandoval took second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:27.85. Jeffares placed third with a time of 2:38.75. Samuel Debbie took third for the men with a time of 2:18.65.

Law took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.91, followed by Snyder with a time of 27.93. Jack Samko touched first with a time of 22.37.

Levey took third in the 100-yard free with a time of 1:00.21. Engstorm took second for the men with a time of 53.45.

Vadney touched second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.02. Castner took first for the men with a time of 2:11.84.

Levey took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:55.92. Gorzula took first for the men with a time of 2:22.74, followed by a second-place finish from Calderon (2:28.81).

Fink finished second in the 500 free with a time of 6:01.81.

Jeffares placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.02. Samko took first again, with a time of 54.43.

The Hawks swept the 200-yard individual medley. Sandoval touched with a time of 2:26.34. Gorzula touched with a time of 2:03.78.

Both teams placed second in the final event of the night, the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Sandoval, Keiser, Jeffares and Levey touched with a time of 1:51.98. The team of Diego Burgos, Calderon, Gorzula and Samko touched with a time of 1:33.76.

SUNY New Paltz is back in action February 1st, closing out the regular season with a 1p.m. dual meet in Oneonta, NY.
